Student Services

The academic success of our students is an area we never take for granted at Cardin. As a result, we provide several support programs for students, starting with an organizational skills course that is required for all ninth grade students in their first trimester. This course provides students with some of the essential study and organizational skills necessary for academic achievement in their high school years, including note-taking, time-management, and test-taking.

In addition, upper-level students offer tutoring services to their peers in need of additional support in their courses. These peer tutors, who are assigned on a voluntary basis, work with their peers weekly or prior to class tests.

Counseling Services

The counseling department is an essential component of the Cardin education team. Our school counselor strives to help all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development, decision-making skills and career development. In addition, the department provides group and school-wide programming on vital topics such as suicide, drugs and alcohol, traffic safety, Jewish and Palestinian relations, friendship, bullying, and more.

Core services provided by the School Counselor include:

  • Counseling (individual, group, and classroom guidance)
  • Consultation to parents, teachers, and school teams
  • Coordination of school-wide initiatives and ongoing development of school counseling services

This comprehensive support helps to ensure that Cardin students become productive, responsible, and well-adjusted young adults. By combining leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, the school counseling department is able to address the individual needs of all Cardin students and promote a more successful school experience.

If extended therapy is required for a student, the school counselor is available to make referrals for a therapist in the community. For more information on any of the services offered by the school counseling department, please contact Jackie Villet at extension 211 or jvillet@shoshanascardin.org.
