Students have access to support services on a variety of levels at Cardin. Some of the ways in which each student’s academic strengths and weaknesses are addressed include: academic accommodations, guided study halls, organizational support, and one on one teacher or student facilitated study sessions. Additionally, upper-level students offer tutoring services to their peers in need of additional support in their courses. These peer tutors, who are assigned on a voluntary basis, work with their peers weekly or prior to class tests.
The counseling department is an essential component of the Cardin education team. Our school counselor strives to help all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development, decision-making skills and career development. In addition, the department provides group and school-wide programming on vital topics such as suicide, drugs and alcohol, traffic safety, Jewish and Palestinian relations, friendship, bullying, and more.
This comprehensive support helps to ensure that Cardin students become productive, responsible, and well-adjusted young adults. By combining leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, the school counseling department is able to address the individual needs of all Cardin students and promote a more successful school experience.
If extended therapy is required for a student, the school counselor is available to make referrals for a therapist in the community. For more information on any of the services offered by the school counseling department, please contact Shannon Carney at extension 211 or scarney@shoshanascardin.org.
