Mathematics and Science

A recognized source of authority, the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) provides reliable and timely data on the mathematics and science achievements of U.S. students compared to that of students in other countries.  In the most recent 2003 edition of TIMSS, American eighth graders averaged 15th in math and 9th in science as compared to students in 45 other countries.

These statistics are relevant to Cardin’s math and science programs in two distinct ways.  First, we want to ensure that our students have quality math and science educators who encourage personal interest and professional success in these fields.  Second, for those students who excel in the math and sciences, we want Cardin’s curriculum to provide them with the classes they need.  For example, AP science and math courses are offered every year in different concentrations.  The School also has offered math classes beyond the normal scope of a high school curriculum for students who have the drive and interest to study on an advanced level.
