One of the hallmarks of a rigorous education is the study of languages beyond one’s native tongue. Obviously, there is a practical application in being able to interact more broadly with today’s diverse world. But more importantly, these studies offer invaluable lessons in the understanding of how other cultures view the world we share – and, in a profound way, how language itself structures human thought.
At Cardin, in addition to the four years of the required study of English, and the three years of the required study of Hebrew (with most students continuing into the fourth year), three Romance languages are offered: French, Latin, and Spanish. It is our expectation and recommendation that the vast majority of students will study one of these three languages for at least three years.
Students challenge themselves at the highest level of language courses, including Advanced Placement. They have also placed highly in various nationwide Latin contests. We also have offered other languages such as Classical Greek and Arabic, depending on student interest and faculty expertise.
