Clubs and Activities

Programming

Throughout the year, Cardin stages a series of weekend events for students. These events help to foster stronger relationships among students, and provide them with the chance to participate in social events planned by both peers and adults. Past weekend events have included laser tag, movie nights, bowling, ice skating, video game nights, and casual and formal dances including junior/senior prom.

In addition to weekend programs, students participate in unique extracurricular activities during the school week. One of these programs is the Black-Jewish Forum of Baltimore (BLEWS). Cardin students in the tenth through twelfth grades meet with students from Western High School twice each year for three years to share their respective experiences as teenagers. During these meetups, they have the opportunity to talk together in small groups to gain a greater understanding of each other’s cultures and learn how they can work together to promote tolerance. In addition, they participate in museum visits and political discussions and visits throughout the program.

Shabbatonim

Each year, Cardin hosts two Shabbatonim to bring the students together as a community outside of the formal school day. These occasions allow students to experience Shabbat in either familiar or new ways, and provide less formal educational opportunities than they would receive in the classroom. In addition, students often take leadership roles and participatory roles in planning and carrying out the Shabbatonim

Clubs

Students are encouraged to bring ideas for clubs to Cardin. Based on student interest and initiative, clubs are formed alongside faculty members providing guidance as advisors. Some past and present student clubs include Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Students for Social Action, swing dancing, and Dungeons & Dragons.
